Coach Kurt Gouveia has been a winner all his life. After being part of the Brigham Young University’s 1984 national title winner, he went to the NFL where he spent 13 years as a linebacker and winning two Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins. Gouveia also made stops at Philadelphia, San Diego, and the XFL’s Las Vegas Outlaws. In the 1991 playoffs, he intercepted a pass in each of the three games, including Super Bowl XXVI for the Redskins.
Gouveia knows what makes a successful linebacker. In back-to-back seasons in 1992 and 1993, he recorded 169 and 171 tackles, respectively. He learned the game at the NFL level from lining up with standout linebackers like Wilbur Marshall, Matt Millen, and Junior Seau.
As a coach, Gouveia spent three seasons in NFL Europe coaching linebackers with the Berlin Thunder and Rhein Fire. He also has worked with Alabama standout and first-round selection Rolando McClain of the Oakland Raiders, and NFL veteran Rich Scanlon and Pisa Tinoisamoa.
He most admires Joe Gibbs who was the head coach of the Washington Redskins while Coach Gouveia played there. Coach Gibbs once told him, “Preparation is the KEY to success”.
