Coach Ricky Hunley knows the linebacker position and is a valuable asset among FBU coaches. Hunley has both played and coached the position, excelling in both roles.

Hunley was a two-time consensus All-American linebacker at the University of Arizona and became the first Wildcat to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. He was selected seventh overall in the NFL Draft.  He spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Phoenix Cardinals and Los Angeles Raiders. He played in Super Bowl XXI and XXII with Denver.

He began his coaching career in college as a graduate assistant with USC before going to the University of Missouri from 1994-2000 where he had several roles including serving as the defensive line coach, linebackers coach and associate head coach. He then went to the University of Florida to be the defensive line coach under Steve Spurrier.

Spurrier valued Hunley so much that he brought him to the NFL when he took the head job with the Washington Redskins. With the Redskins, Hunley met Marvin Lewis who brought him on as the Cincinnati Bengals linebackers coach when he became the head coach. After five seasons with the Bengals, Hunley went to the United Football League and served as the defensive coordinator of the California Redwoods and most recently, the Sacramento Mountain Lions.
